NJ SIM Foundation selects The Seeing Eye of New Jersey as the Primary Beneficiary of the 2016 CIO Technology Exchange and Golf Outing

Each year the NJ SIM Foundation holds a CIO charity golf outing to raise money for a charity that has demonstrated outstanding leadership and value to communities across the state of New Jersey. This year the NJ SIM Foundation selected The Seeing Eye of New Jersey to be our primary beneficiary of our 2016 NJ SIM Foundation CIO Technology Exchange & Charity Golf Outing. The funds donated by the NJ SIM Foundation will be used to create mobile ready versions of their website and all of its internal Constituent Management Systems, following all Section 508 Accessibility standards. This will allow seeing eye dog applicants, graduates, puppy raisers and dog adopters to easily access necessary guide dog history and data at their fingertips, anytime, anywhere. Additionally, the integration of smartphone capabilities will further enhance the usefulness of the mobile ready websites.

Since 1929, the Seeing Eye has taken their leadership in the guide dog industry very seriously. In the 21st Century, they remain in the forefront of leveraging technology to assist its constituents. The Seeing Eye is a philanthropic organization whose mission is to enhance the independence, dignity, and self-confidence of blind people through the use of Seeing Eye dogs. Approximately 312 blind individuals receive Seeing Eye dogs annually. After 25 days of intensive training an applicant receives a Seeing Eye dog for a nominal charge of $150. The care, training, administration and follow-up for each dog and recipient is very costly but having a Seeing Eye dog makes a very profound impact on a blind person’s quality of life.

In a world where mobility, security and data are of the utmost importance, people who are blind and visually-impaired use smartphones for an ever-increasing variety of tasks – GPS navigation, voiceover apps to read email or news, camera scanning apps or even apps that determine the value of U.S. currency. Through the NJ SIM Foundation’s primary beneficiary grant, the Seeing Eye will be able to address many of these important concerns. The NJ SIM Foundation is honored to assist The Seeing Eye of New Jersey and congratulates them with this grant as our 2016 Primary Beneficiary and we wish all those who benefit from the grant much happiness and success.
