Feeding Hands currently serves as many as 270 families (750 people!) each month with the compassionate help of over 300 individual volunteers and several volunteer groups. With a location next to RWJ Hospital Somerset, the sick and disabled from all over the area will stop by for help in meeting their food needs and, unlike most pantries, Feeding Hands turns no one away because of where they might live. They distribute over 12,000 pounds of meat, produce and non-perishables each month, most of which is donated by the public or gleaned from local stores. Last year alone this group distributed 75 tons of food!
The NJSIM Foundation’s grant of $6,000 will be used to procure a Cloud software solution and laptops which will be used to mobilize in the field to better reach and interact with their constituents. The new system will enable Feeding Hands to manage volunteers, procure food, track client visits and demographics providing data and insights needed to improve operations and services.
